Happy New Year 2010 ( Joy & Optimism of St. John Bosco)

As the year begins, I wish everyone conservative and liberals alike to fill their hearts with joy and optimism.  "Let nothing bother you,"  St. John Bosco used to say.  The Salesian Spirituality focuses in God's Providence and refuses to be discouraged by hardships and set backs.  It is also based on St. Francis de Sales optimistic humanism that believes in the innate goodness of people without ignoring his weaknesses.  As St. Paul exhorts, "Rejoice in the Lord always" (Phil 4:4) because the "fruit of God's spirit is love, joy, peace..."( Gal 5:22 ) and this is the foundation of our hope.

How to Overcome Procastination

Fix the root cause:

1. Procrastination due to dislike of an activity
If you procrastinate because you don’t like a task, look for ways to increase task appeal such as:
  • Make it into a game, and keep score.
  • Make it into a game, competing with others.
  • Listen to upbeat music while doing it.  Schedule a reward immediately after you complete it.
2. Procrastination due to overwhelm
If you’re avoiding a task because it is lengthy and overwhelming, then “divide and conquer”:

  • Break the large task into separate, short-term segments.
  • Then check off each segment as an accomplished short-term task.
 3. Procrastination due to inertia
If you procrastinate because you have difficulty initiating a task, create something to react to. Tasks that can be reacted to are easier to begin than those that you must initiate yourself.

  • Work on the task with others – then you can react to their questions, emails, etc.
  • Establish a deadline with your supervisor.
 4. Procrastination due to lack of organization
Sometimes we procrastinate on beginning a large project because we haven’t organized the task and don’t know where to start. If you can’t seem to get a project organized:

  • Think through the task.
  • Talk with your supervisor or collaborators to plan it.
  • Break the larger task into do-able segments.
  • Create a list of resources and supplies needed to accomplish the task.
  • Create a timeline for the task.
  • Then schedule the first segment of the task.
  • Create an email or text reminder for this segment.
 5. Procrastination on difficult tasks
Not all tasks can be made easy, but if you find a task particularly difficult, you must analyze how it can become easier.
  • Do you need help?
  • More training?
  • More practice?
  • More assistance from other?
  • Analyze what is making the task so difficult, and then get the help you need to succeed.
     6. Procrastination at certain times of day
More challenging tasks should be done at whatever time of day you seem to feel more focused and energetic. Take note of your daily rhythms, and then try to schedule the most avoided tasks for the time of day when you’ll have more energy to tackle them.

It's really Christmas for 12 days and the symbols in that song.

In the Catholic Church, the Christmas season starts on the evening before Christmas Day and lasts until the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord - celebrated on the Sunday after the Feast of the Ephany (January 6th).

This is when we celebrate the birth of Jesus hence the song "Twelve Days of Christmas".  The gifts are symbolic as follows:
A Partridge in a Pear Tree: Jesus Christ
Two Turtle Doves: The Old and New Testaments
Three French Hens: The Theological Virtues (Faith, Hope, and Charity)
Four Calling Birds: The Four Gospels / The Four Evangelists
Five Golden Rings: The first Five Books of the Old Testament, the “Pentateuch”
Six Geese a-Laying: The Six Days of Creation
Seven Swans a-Swimming: The Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit or the Seven Sacraments
Eight Maids a-Milking: The Eight Beatitudes
Nine Ladies Dancing: The Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
Ten Lords a-Leaping: The Ten Commandments
Eleven Pipers Piping: The Eleven Faithful Apostles
Twelve Drummers Drumming: The Twelve Points of Doctrine in the Apostle's Creed

(updated) Terrorist peed on the fuse; Bullies and wuss; Getting ready to die in DC

Underwear terrorist peed on the fuse.

I think the underwear terrorist could have done a lot of damage if his bomb worked.  He must have peed on the fuse.  But now I see posts blaming Bush for that.  While Bush was in office, nothing of the sort happened since 9/11;  and the man has been away for a year now.  So, how can he or his administration be responsible for this?  Oh and get this, Janet Napolitano said that "The system worked."  I don't think it was the system that caused the wardrobe  malfunction.  So, I beg to differ.

    Bullies Respect Only Power.

Character and personality studies have determined that the aggressive type understand and respect courage and power.  A bully will stop pushing  someone around only if he knows that he can and will be pushed back.  He does not respond to the nice guy approach because he thinks that is acquiescence and cowardice.  Would there still be an Israel today if they apologized to their neighbors and bowed to every sovereign king around them?

    Exercise for a Happy Death

St. John Bosco had this practice with his students.  It consisted of a monthly recollection of the 4 last things:  Death, Judgment, Heaven & Hell and the sacrament of confession.  Death, than which nothing is more certain; Judgement, than which nothing is more strict; Hell, than which nothing is more horrible; and Heaven, than which nothing is more beautiful!"  The idea is to be ready to die anytime.  Back in the 19th century, death was more common than today.  Living in the outskirts of the nations capital, I somehow feel the need to get ready now more than ever.

Recommendations Given By St. John Bosco To His First Missionaries (Still good & applicable to military & public servants too)

St. John Bosco (front row 2nd left) with his first missionaries

    Winning hearts and minds

    One in heart and soul

Recommendations Given By St. John Bosco To His First Missionaries
    1.        Seek souls and not money, honor or dignities.
    2.       Be charitable and most courteous towards all, but avoid conversations and familiarity with persons of the other sex or with persons whose conduct is open to suspicion.
    3.       Do not go visiting, except for motives of charity or necessity.
    4.       Do not accept invitations to dinner, except for very grave reasons.  In such cases arrange for a confrere to accompany you.
    5.       Take special care of the sick, of the young, of the old and of the poor; and you will win the blessing of God and the goodwill of men.
    6.       Show respect towards all persons in authority whether civil or religious.
    7.       On meeting a person in authority, take care to salute him with due respect.
    8.       Do the same towards ecclesiastics and persons belonging to religious institutes.
    9.       Shun idleness and disputes, and observe great moderation in eating, drinking and sleeping.
    10.   Love, reverence and respect other religious orders and always speak well of them.  In this way you will be esteemed by all, and will promote the good of our congregation.
    11.   Take care of your health.  Work well, but only do as much as your strength will allow.
    12.   Let the world know that you are poor in clothing, food and abode, and you will be rich in the sight of God, and will win the hearts of men.
    13.   Love one another, advise one another, correct one another, and do not be carried away be either envy or rancor.  Let the good of one become the good of all, and let the troubles and sufferings of one be regarded as the troubles and sufferings of all, and let each one strive to banish or at least to mitigate the sorrows of others.
    14.   Observe your rules, and never forget the monthly Exercise for a Happy Death.
    15.   Every morning commend to God the occupations of the day, especially lessons, religious instructions and sermons.
    16.   Constantly promote devotion to Mary Help of Christians, and to the Blessed Sacrament.
    17.   Recommend to the boys frequent confessions and communion.
    18.   In order to cultivate ecclesiastical vocations, constantly inculcate: (a) love of chastity; (b) horror of the opposite vice; (c) avoidance of bad companions; and (d) frequent communion.  Always be charitable, gentle and kindly towards the boys.
    19.   Hear both sides before making up your mind regarding reports and matters in dispute.
    20.   In time of fatigue and suffering do not forget that we have a great reward prepared for us in heaven.  Amen

Pelosi, Church and Senate Healthcare Bill

In an interview with Eleanor Clift, Nancy Pelosi justifies her position and shows her unwillingness to seek the truth despite her bishop’s attempts to correct her.  Here are excerpts from that interview and my own comments.

Pelosi:  I talked to one of the cardinals. I said to him that I believe that what we are doing honors the principles we talked about: we want to pass a health-care bill, we want it to be abortion neutral, and we want it to [have] no federal funding [for abortion], which is the law. And we believe that our language does that. They said, "We believe that it does not." I said, let's sit down at the table and our lawyers can compare language. That's what the meeting was about—to make our case. Clearly, the people at that table were not willing to accept what we know to be a fact.
When the cardinals said, “We believe that it does not.”   She should respond with, “How so?” instead of my lawyers will beat your lawyers in a debate to prove that I am right.

Pelosi:  I have some concerns about the church's position respecting a woman's right to choose. I have some concerns about the church's position on gay rights. I am a practicing Catholic, although they're probably not too happy about that.
In other words, she cannot accept the Church’s teaching and guidance on these subjects.  A practicing Catholic is someone who abides by the teachings of the Church.  Her proclamation is for the interview to give an erroneous perception that one can be a practicing Catholic and reject the Church’s stances.

Pelosi:  But it is my faith.
It may be her faith, but it is not the faith of the followers of Jesus.  She must have started her own church that we were unaware of.

Pelosi:  I practically mourn this difference of opinion because I feel what I was raised to believe is consistent with what I profess
The differences are between her opinion and the objective truth presented by the official teachers which is not an opinion. She needs to seek the truth instead of mourning her divergence from it.  And whatever she was raised to believe is being corrected by the bishop, so why is she reluctant to relinquish those errors?

Pelosi:…what I profess, and that is that we are all endowed with a free will and a responsibility to answer for our actions.
The fact that we are endowed with a free will and responsibility to answer for our actions does not affirm that it is correct, moral and good to abort one’s child.  Free will is not a license to kill.  It is an opportunity to do the right thing without coercion.

Pelosi:  And that women should have that opportunity to exercise their free will.
She means that women should be able to choose abortion legally.  Should rapists be able to rape legally as an exercise of their free will?

Pelosi:  When I speak to my archbishop in San Francisco and his role is to try to change my mind on the subject, well then he is exercising his pastoral duty to me as one of his flock.  When they call me on the phone here to talk about, or come to see me about an issue, that's a different story. Then they are advocates, and I am a public official, and I have a different responsibility.

Is she a Catholic public official or a public official who is also Catholic?  Then again, if the bishops advocate the rights of the unborn then there is really no difference because that is not just a Catholic thing.  It is about the universal and inalienable rights of everyone - born or unborn.

HuffPost Kirk Writes "Ted Kennedy Having a Merry Christmas In Heaven"

"He's having a merry Christmas in heaven," said an emotional Sen. Paul Kirk, D-Mass., who was appointed to fill the seat after Kennedy succumbed to brain cancer in August. Kirk said it was an honor to essentially cast Kennedy's vote as Democrats passed the Senate's version of a bill that would extend insurance to 30 million Americans."
    Source:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/24/ted-kennedy-senate-libera_n_402925.html

I tried to put my 2 cents in by somehow my comments get censored out so, I'll do them here.  First, Ted Kennedy is not likely to be in heaven because he supported abortion laws that led to the massacre of 50 million unborn children despite the admonitions of his Church.  He persisted without any remorse until the day he died writing a letter to the Pope about his other accomplishments.

This leads to the second point i.e. the other accomplishments of service to the poor which Ted might have encouraged does not dispense from following all the tenets of his faith.  One does not pick and choose which commands of Almighty God to obey and which to discard.  If something needs to be discarded, it would have been the latter because the right to life trumps over the right to liberty or the pursuit of happiness.

As far as the health care bill is concerned, one needs to consult the teachers of the faith for what the people of God believes.

Democrats can still win in 2010 & 2012.

There is obviously a lot of anger out there for the Democrats but they seem unperturbed.  Some are still cocky as they rub the GOPs noses on their success with the healthcare reform.  They do not have a leg to stand on and their platforms suck.  They're for the culture of death, their opponents for life.  They're blatantly upholders of a culture of corruption;  the other of integrity.  So, what gives them confidence?

They must still have their Rock the Vote support.  Where are the young Republicans?  They still have the fake Catholic organizations that will personally contact marginalized Catholics.  Will the bishops denounce those?  Will the Jesuits still support the one?  They still have demographic groups e.g. the homosexuals and feminists that are not included in any conservative party.  They have ethnic minorities that feel out of place in the GOP.  Has the GOP reached out to those?  They might have pseudo conservative agents that divide the opposition.  I already read about a Constitution Party coming up and about.  Then there's Joe Lieberman and the Independents.

Bottom line, despite the anger and frustration, the Democrats can still win in 2010 and 2012 because it is about numbers.  And all the TEA party goers and pro-lifers may still not add up to give them the boot.   Remember the shock when the entire student body of Notre Dame cheered, "Yes We Can!"

The protests in Iran get worse as protesters get beaten up and  shot.  Today's video shows how the masses are not intimidated.

Could this happen here in the US if Obama and his Democrats continue to ignore the constitution and shun the people's will?  It may be time to buy a gun as a cop would be too heavy to carry.

False Catholic Groups Welcome Abortion Language in Senate Bill

    (Source: New York Times )
"The Senate bill, approved Thursday morning, allows any state to bar the use of federal subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortion and requires insurers in other states to divide subsidy money into separate accounts so that only dollars from private premiums would be used to pay for abortions.  Just days before the bill passed, the Catholic Health Association, which represents hundreds of Catholic hospitals across the country, said in a statement that it was “encouraged” and “increasingly confident” that such a compromise “can achieve the objective of no federal funding for abortion.” An umbrella group for nuns followed its lead.  The same day, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops called the proposed compromise “morally unacceptable.”

First of all, this group is a private association and does not represent the Church in any way - other than by name or CINO, Catholic In Name Only.  In this matter where it comes in direct opposition to the bishops' stance, it has even become a distraction, a source of confusion that misleads others.  The Church really needs to manage it's brand.

But in addition to the bishops' statement, the fact that the bishops are ready to close the Church's hospitals if forced to perform abortions is the clearest sign of where it stands.

Those Who Got a Sweet Deal

Sen. DeMint introduced an amendment to prohibit bribery but it was dismissed by the Democratic senators who voted against it.  So, vote buying will continue and the healthcare reform bill will advance almost inevitably to become the law of the land.

Clearly there is something terribly wrong here as a tyrannical majority tramples over the rights of half the country.  And people know this and are hoping that the lawmakers will stop this travesty.  But with the Democrats in-charge, the opposition can do little or nothing except throw their hands in the air.  They need to throw their shoes in the air instead as the American public gets robbed in broad daylight.  If the parliamentary procedures do not work then they must do things outside the box and try alternative ways to stop this.  If you see your son being mugged,  you don't raise your hand and say, "Point of order Mr. Chairman.", you pull a tire rod out and come out swinging.  And the scary reality is this, if the folks on the hill don't do this, then the people on the streets will.

Video Description:  Barack Obama's Safe Schools Czar Kevin Jennings founded the Gay, Lesbian, and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). Recently he was appointed by the Obama administration to run the Office of Safe & Drug Free Schools in the US Department of Education.

In 2000 GLSEN held a conference that was not so much about tolerance as it was about teaching children about sex. In this clip one of the activists asks 14 year olds, "Spit or swallow?... Is it rude?"

This conference was fully supported by the Massachusetts Department of Education, the Safe Schools Program, the Governor's Commission on Gay & Lesbian Youth, and some of the presenters even received federal money.

My 2 cents: with a czar like that, our safe schools are neither.

Video: Senate Rules, Abortionists Advertise, Jesus is Born

With the passage of the abortion expansion bill in Senate, I felt despondent at first.  But after a short prayer, I regained my spirit.  It was just like the first Christmas.  Imperial Rome was unstoppable.  It was a time of greed when principles are compromised and the interests of the people are ignored.  There was rampant debauchery as evil was legalized and good scorned and ridiculed.  It was then when an indigent baby, the child of God, was born.  He is God with us, Emmanuel who would be a witness to what is lasting, true and good.  Since then, this child has prevailed and continues to rule the hearts and minds of those who love God.  Glory to God in the highest and peace to men of good will.  Merry Christmas.

Video: Nebraskans tell Nelson to Return Bribe

Nebraska Republican Governor Heineman told Democratic Senator Ben Nelson to give Majority Leader Harry Reid back his $100 million bribe. Reid slipped the bribe in the Obamacare bill to buy Nelson's vote.  Nebraskans surprised, angered and embarrassed by it. I think this is the results of all the prayers against this landmark pro-death policy.

Videos: Sex for abortion & death panel support in "healthcare reform"

Bishops still oppose it because of abortion provisions.
While the U.S. Senate appears poised to finally pass a health care reform bill before Christmas, the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops remains opposed to the Senate version on the ground that its limits on abortion funding do not go far enough. According to statements issued last Friday and Saturday by the Bishops, the Manager's Amendment (full text) to H.R. 3590 "does not seem to allow purchasers who exercise freedom of choice or of conscience to 'opt out' of abortion coverage in federally subsidized health plans that include such coverage. Instead it will require purchasers of such plans to pay a distinct fee or surcharge which is extracted solely to help pay for other people's abortions." The Bishops stressed that their criteria for acceptable health care reform includes three moral criteria: "respect for life and conscience; affordability for the poor; and access to much-needed basic health care for immigrants."  Details at:  Religion Clause: Bishops Continue To Oppose Senate Health Care Bill-- Looking At Why

Others oppose it because the Senate Democrats declare a super-majority of senators will be needed to overrule any regulation imposed by the Death Panels.   Senator Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) pointed out some rather astounding language in the Senate health care bill during floor remarks tonight. First, he noted that there are a number of changes to Senate rules in the bill--and it's supposed to take a 2/3 vote to change the rules. And then he pointed out that the Reid bill declares on page 1020 that the Independent Medicare Advisory Board cannot be repealed by future Congresses:  More at: http://www.redstate.com/erick/2009/12/21/we-are-no-longer-a-nation-of-laws-senate-sets-up-requirement-for-super-majority-to-ever-repeal-obamacare/

In other words: the issue Jim DeMint raised on the floor of the Senate last night. Why did the authors of the legislation want to specially protect the Independent Medicare Advisory Board by making it difficult for future Congresses to legislate in that area? Because the heart of the bill is the attempt to get control of our health care permanently in the hands of federal bureaucrats, who would allegedly know better than doctors and patients what’s good for them, and who would cut access to care and the quality of care so there’s more money left over for various big government liberal social programs.    More at: http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/12/kristol_it_could_still_go_down.asp

But if you just go along and support the so-called health care bill, then they might sleep with you. It's a new fallacy: argumentum ad fornicatum.

Video: Abortion Expansionists vs. Mother of Life

As the ruling party in the US government moves forward with their expansion of abortion coverage disguised as a health reform bill, a new apparition of our Lady has been reported in Cairo last week.  It is as though our Mother is comforting us to not lose heart in the face of a seemingly unstoppable advance of those who promote and support the murder of the unborn.

    Report Source:  http://weekly.ahram.org.eg/2009/977/fr2.htm
"...On Monday the Coptic Orthodox Bishopric in Giza issued a statement: "On 11 Friday, at 1am, a full apparition of the Virgin Mary on the right dome of the church was reported by at least 3,000 people. She appeared in her usual heavenly blue costume. She was crowned and the concrete cross on the dome was placed on top of her crown. Those present captured photos and videos of the Holy scene," read the statement. The scene, as described, was broadcast on Amr Adib's talk show "Cairo Today" on 13 December."
