Knowing Divine love without the basis of human love.

Is it possible to comprehend the love of God if one has not experienced love as a child?  Can one who was deprived even learn or be capable of loving others?  The principle behind this is, "Nothing goes into the intellect, mind, without passing through the senses".  So, is one doomed to a vicious cycle of unloving, loneliness and pain because of an unhappy childhood, a dysfunctional family and alike?

A professor of mine back in college, Fr. Danny Torres SDB, affirmed that dire consequence.  But somehow, I didn't want to believe it so - as I myself came from a dysfunctional family.  So I tried to find a real life example to disprove this and encourage others that they can break out of a vicious cycle.

I was going to cite the most popular child abuse case of David Pelzer and in his best-selling autobiography "A Child Called It:  One Child's Courage To Survive".  But if we click on the link, we'll see that he wasn't devoid of love because his mom did nurture him early on and his brothers supported him as well even during the tough times.

So if you know a saint who was totally neglected or unloved since infancy, but turned out to be a charitable believer, then let me know.  For now, Fr. Torres' response seems to hold because I cannot find an example to disprove his assertion.  Even Remus and Romulus were nurtured by wolves.

So, the only ones who were totally uncared for did not survive infancy - like the victims of abortion.  Anyone who survived would have had someone or something aid them as an infant cannot make it by himself.

Isn't it wonderful then, that God has naturally necessitated an experience of love so that we can know, understand and believe in Him as Love?

Hardwork, attitude, love of God. Mathematical 'evaluation' of these intangibles.

Math proves that hardwork gets you close, attitude gets you there and love of God puts you over the top.

Understanding the Vow of Chastity. It's a Spiritual Romance.

Source  Nuns during their perpetual religious vows details

We're created for the love of God.  Some can do it directly - like these nuns.  Others like myself did not receive that special gift of celibate love.  I do it indirectly through married love.  The first one is like going up on a helicopter;  the latter on the stairway.  The spiritual love is obviously better but it does have it's challenges.  For women, the loss of fecundity is the greatest temptation.  For men, I guess it would be the inability to pass the family jewels into the next generation to somehow perpetuate oneself through a child.  On the other hand, the rewards are awesome.  One can focus on loving God and serving His Church in total freedom.  One can fight fearlessly for the sake of God, justice or human dignity without any worry that one's child or spouse could be punished as a reprisal.  But the biggest plus is that one can love the heavenly Father in the very same way as His only begotten Son.  Celibate love enables one to love with that pure, total and complete self-giving of the Lord Jesus.  So, one can follow, imitate and be united with the Incarnate God in the most intimate way.  ( Who knows dear reader, the Lord might bless you with it - if you ask. )

God's dog must be a Wheaten terrier

This fluffy breed, a Wheaten terrier, is rated as the best for kids, babies even.  She doesn’t shed.   She took the phobia away from my boys who were afraid of dogs before.  I never heard her growl even when she’s bothered while eating.  Sometimes, my kids accidentally step on her.  She’d yelp then limp away.  But after sometime, she'd be back ready to play again.  She’s obedient even if  she has a mind of her own.  When I come home late, she’d wake from her slumber & stagger to check who’s coming in.  She's usually more enthusiastic & energetic to meet us.  Then, she’d  contently rest at my feet.  She doesn’t get bored nor find the need to entertain herself when I am around.  When we leave, she stays by the door awaiting our return.  She hate baths.  I have to hold her by the leash then hose her down.  But she settles down & accepts her fate by the time I lather her with shampoo.

Weeks ago, there’s a post about a dog saving another after a traffic accident.  The post commented on how the dog taught brotherly love.  My dog made me think of the love of God.  If I were the dog & God was me, will I await His coming longingly?  Will I be content to stay still in His presence?  Will I accept the baths and purifications?  Will I guard His house and wake from my slumber whenever something happens?  Will I forget the hurts that His children inflict on me and always come back to serve?
